THE BUTTERFLY THAT FLEW TO LEBANON.

A new rhythm’s in the air. Ancient history lies in the waters, along the cobbled roads, beneath hijabs, scared temples and altars. The Sun is shining. Water? Plentiful! The weather in Lebanon is beautiful and pleasantly warm with cooler evenings. This is an intimate entry of my thoughts and observations as I navigate yet another new place. If you’re looking for a critique of Lebanon -this ain’t that. If you’re for here for inspiration and genuine insight WELCOME in.

Movement is constant and the Lebanese locals are unique in the Town of Batroun. The benefit of being a native New Orleanian is gaining an instinct of vigilance and a spirit of exploration. The architecture, fashion, history, culture, knowledge and experience is priceless. As a Fine Artist, traveling abroad is a creatives dream come true and I was always advised by my Art Professors to do so.

So, how did a Butterfly “from off”, Dumaine end up in Lebanon? In short, by Gods grace.

In addition to accompanying my Love along his journey. He’s a professional Basketball Player who currently plays for Batroun. As a fearless Artist who dances to the beat of her own drum he knows I keep my luggage on standby! Traveling the globe with him has been one of my greatest blessings. This concoction of faith, risk, talent, and access is a warm pot of Black Excellence. Maya Angelou states “Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends.” I could not agree more.

The Middle East has been incredible to witness. I would be remiss not to display reverence and give my condolences to the countless lives lost in the recent attacks. As we were driving through Beirut our driver somberly pointed out the site and spirit led me to pray a silent prayer. Realizing just how privileged I am as an American. As a Black American I’m too familiar with deep pain, I know disaster, I know what it’s like to tragically lose loved ones but I’ve never experienced such atrocities as my foreign Brothers and Sisters have. From Africa’s Congo to Iran, Alabama, Mississippi down to the wards of New Orleans and everything in between. My heart will always hold a place of empathy and I look forward to learning and doing more to aid my people. I can’t do anything but revere places that I have gained and will inherit life changing experiences from. I encourage anyone traveling to have that same sentiment.

I have a little more time here so, stay along for the trip as this Butterfly from New Orleans delves more into the culture. We’ll explore serene places like Shams House of Wellness and concept shops like Dr. Lemonade.

Until next time, stay innovative!

Warmest regards and Barakah! ✨

Make it stand out
