The Monarchs: is a mixed media series I created to honor the beauty and essence of the “Monarch Butterfly”. There is a supernatural connection I have to the species. The Monarch Butterfly has been my favorite insect since I was a little girl. In elementary school, my first grade teacher would take us outside to capture caterpillars and track their life’s cycle. We picked caterpillars for the classroom and documented their transformation into beautiful adult Butterflies. Since then I have always had an affinity for the “Monarchs”.

Each Monarch Butterfly is three dimensional and sculpted by hand. This series is made of cardboard, acrylic, and wire.

Monarch Butterfly Fact: Every spring, adult monarch butterflies head north from their winter respite in the southern forests of Mexico and California, and return in the fall—a journey some 2,000-3,000-miles each way!
